Celebrity Rosie O’Donnell and President Donald Trump have historically not gotten along very well, and O’Donnell’s dislike of Trump is not focused on him alone — it seeps into his entire administration, as well.
Which is why it is so odd that O’Donnell was passed over for the opportunity to play White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon in one of the most vocal liberal shows out there — “Saturday Night Live.”
O’Donnell would very likely have loved nothing more than the chance to get cracks in on the current administration — and in fact told NBC News that she was good to go.
“If asked, of course I would (play the role),” she said. The idea for her to play the role came not only as a result of O’Donnell’s hatred of the administration, but also from a pretty funny mental image prompted by a pair of pictures putting O’Donnell’s face on Bannon’s body and comparing it to Bannon himself:

I mean, that’s pretty funny.
However, it would seem that O’Donnell’s malevolence toward the current administration was actually what kept her from landing a role she would have loved.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter published on the website MMOnday, SNL cast member Leslie Jones shed some light into why O’Donnell was passed up — and it was illuminating.
“I asked (producer Lorne Michaels), ‘How come y’all aren’t bringing Rosie O’Donnell in or any of them to do it?’” she asked, in regard to O’Donnell playing Bannon.
“And he was like, ‘When you’re playing a character, you can’t play it from hate. You have to play it from funny, because when you play it from hate, it looks like you’re just being mean,’” Jones said. “I love Rosie to death, but he might have been right on that one.”
I have to agree — and I never thought I would say this, but hats off to this SNL executive for understanding that O’Donnell was just not the right fit.
Plus — when even SNL knows how hateful you are, it’s gotten really bad.
