Shep Smith Slams Trump Admin Over Russian Meeting

Of all of the liberals on staff at Fox News, Shep Smith has never come across as one of the most… well, balanced of the lot. After all, this is the man who once inadvertently dropped the f-bomb on air over reports of torture.

However, poor Shepard seems to have truly lost it this time after he had a snowflake meltdown over the fact that — gasp! — there may have been more people in the room with Donald Trump Jr. and Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya!

I don’t think I need to spell out who Veselnitskaya is to our regular readers, but the “breaking news” that there were more people in the room with Trump Jr. was treated as if this were Walter Cronkite announcing the death of Kennedy.

On Friday, Smith was discussing the issue with Fox News’ Chris Wallace when the news broke.

“We’ve gotten — and who knows if we’ve even gotten to the end of the story, we’ve only got to the end of the story with the emails,” Wallace said.

“I know that we haven’t,” Smith said, and then shifted into dramatic mode. “I know that we haven’t because there’s news breaking at this moment, Chris.”

“Fox News can now confirm,” he continued, turning to the camera. “New, more, Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, Paul Manafort, the lawyer from Russia, the interpreter, this new guy we found about today, and a mystery person. John Roberts confirms there was an eighth person in that meeting.

“We don’t know there may have been more, but there was an eighth,” he continued.

“Jared Kushner filled out his form, I think it’s an F-86, saying who he had met with and what he’d done. Very important stuff, you can go to prison for messing it up, y’know, intentionally.

“He went back and added one hundred names and places,” he added. “None of these people made it. They — we’re still not clean on this, Chris, if there’s nothing there, and that’s what they tell us, they tell us there’s nothing to this, nothing came of it, there’s a nothing-burger, it wasn’t memorable, didn’t write it down, didn’t tell you about it because it wasn’t anything, so I didn’t even remember it, with a Russian interpreter in the room at Trump Tower!”

After a bit more mugging for the camera, he then attributed a Shakespeare paraphrase to a relative: “My grandmother used to say, ‘Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.’”

Video below:

From Fox News, the flash, apparently official — Shepard Smith’s sanity died at about a minute and a quarter through the video.

Look, the Trump Jr. meeting with the Russian lawyer wasn’t a good idea and it isn’t a pleasant sign for the Trump administration. Nobody’s going to sit here and say it is. Trump Jr. been asked to testify before Congress next week, according to The Hill, and if he does we’ll likely know a bit more then.

However, the overheated speculation about it seems to mirror everything else in the Russia case — particularly the Comey testimony, which was looked upon by the media as the be-all-end-all that would unravel the Trump administration. It ended up being a bigger disappointment than that “Ghostbusters” reboot — at least, if you were a Democrat.

Instead of learning to possibly slow their roll on the “hot diggity, we’ve got ’em this time!” reporting, it’s happened all over again on this one — and Shepard Smith’s reaction is one of the worst we’ve seen. If he can’t control himself, maybe it’s time for him to find another line of work. This is clearly pretty stressful for him, and the strain is beginning to show.
