Punk Tries Stickup Never Sees Good Guy With Chair Sneak Up Behind

In life, you sometimes have to improvise — and that’s exactly what a coffee-drinking patron in Fresno, California just did.

When a masked criminal tried to hold up a Starbucks with a knife and a gun, a “good guy” sprang into action… but he was armed with only a chair.

According to KSEE News, 58-year-old Cregg Jerri was minding his own business when a man wearing a “Transformers” mask tried to rob the coffee shop.

The perpetrator, identified by police as 30-year-old Ryan Flores, flashed a blade and a handgun in front of the barista, and demanded cash.

Unbeknownst to him, Jerri was coming up behind him to stop the robbery. The older man smashed a chair over the head of the criminal, but the fight wasn’t over yet.

The two men struggled in the middle of the cafe. During the hand-to-hand fight, Cregg Jerri realized that the gun was fake. Unfortunately, the knife was very real.

Jerri was reportedly stabbed in the neck by the blade. Despite being injured, the intervening bystander still continued to fight the crook and use his own weapon against him. Although the masked man escaped, he was quickly caught and arrested.

“There’s probably not very many people in America who would do what Cregg Jerri did last night,” Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer stated.

“It was incredibly heroic and the way most people would think that they would respond but may not have the courage to respond,” the officer continued.

Both men were treated for knife injuries. Jerri Cregg received several staples in his neck but is expected to recover fully.

The criminal didn’t fare so well. Flores will likely survive, but was listed in critical yet stable condition.

Police said that they didn’t endorse taking on an armed robber with a chair, but that Cregg was clearly within his rights to take down the criminal.

“It’s not something we recommend. In this case it was a good outcome — no one died as a result of this incident, but very well could have,” cautioned Chief Dyer. “But nonetheless, he’s a hero — there’s no question.”

A chair may not be the ideal weapon, but it’s refreshing to see a citizen stand up to a thug.

At the same time, it’s an important reminder that protective tools matter, and removing ways for people to be lawfully armed leaves them almost defenseless.

Hopefully, this incident will make other criminals think twice before putting people at risk.
