Though the annual Miss America pageant Sunday night contained a lot of anti-Trump nonsense, as does anything connected to entertainment these days, one patriotic contestant managed to sneak a very unexpected but much appreciated defense of President Donald Trump into the show.
That contestant was Miss Missouri, Jennifer Davis, who defended the president when asked about the ongoing investigation about his campaign allegedly colluding with the Russians last year to disrupt the 2016 presidential election.
“There are multiple investigations into whether Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia on the election — well, did they?” judge Jordin Sparks asked, as reported by The Washington Post. “You’re the jury: guilty or innocent? And please explain your verdict.”
To be clear, Sparks isn’t the typical entertainment world airhead. Her outspoken Christian beliefs have been evident since she burst onto the scene on “American Idol” in 2007, and she made a name for herself in evangelical circles before that performing at pro-life events.
However, her question was far from the only anti-Trump one that appeared Sunday evening. (As Fox News’ Todd Starnes’ column was headlined, “When did the Miss America Pageant turn into the Nasty Woman protest?”)
Davis, however, was the only contestant who responded by defending the president.
“Right now, I have to say innocent, because not enough information has been revealed,” she replied. “We are still investigating this, and I think we should investigate it to its fullest extent. If we do find the evidence that they have had collusion with Russia, the justice system should do their due diligence and they should be punished accordingly.”
And as The Daily Wire pointed out, the crowd cheered while she was giving her answer.
They probably cheered because she had spoken truthfully. In fact, new evidence released last month suggests that even the hack of the Democrat National Committee’s computers had no ties to either the Russians or President Trump. Instead, it’s believed the hack was committed by the Democrats themselves.
“A group of former US intelligence officials contend that the hack of the Democratic National Committee’s computers in 2016 was an inside job,” the New York Post reported in mid-August. “The group, which calls itself the Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity, or VIPS, said there was an insider leak that occurred thanks to someone with access to a DNC computer.”
Not surprisingly, not a single contestant at Sunday’s pageant was asked about this stunning find.
As for Davis, she went on to win first runner-up in the pageant, thus earning herself a much-deserved $25,000 scholarship. Good for her.

Bustle magazine noted that Davis has been entering pageants since 2012. She won the Miss Missouri competition three months ago.
If nothing else, her recent rise to success should serve as a stark reminder of why being a hard-working but also honest human being always pays off in the long run.
Kudos to you, Miss Davis.
