President Donald Trump’s first few months in office have been a roller coaster ride, but Tuesday night may go down in history as one of the most tumultuous, and potentially most harming.
The New York Times reported that former FBI Director James Comey had a written a memo after a meeting he had with Trump that seemed to imply that Trump had asked him to back off the investigation into former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.
Despite all the outrage on both sides of the aisle, the NYT never actually got a copy of the memo, which didn’t sit well with South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy, The Daily Caller reported.
“I want to see the memo,” Gowdy said in six epic words, when asked by Fox News’ Martha McCallum on Tuesday night for his reaction to the story.
“Obviously, I want to talk to Director Comey to determine how contemporaneous his recording of the conversation was,” Gowdy continued.
Gowdy explained that the entire memo needs to be viewed, not just the part that the NYT saw fit to print. Gowdy pointed out that newspapers aren’t valid evidence in a courtroom, but Comey’s memo could be — if it exists.
You can watch Gowdy’s comments here:
“But also, importantly, not just what was said, but what did Director Comey hear? How did he take it?” he asked. “And with all due respect to the New York Times, that can only be done by looking at the memo and talking to Director Comey.”
Many other Republicans, and Democrats, have demanded to see the Comey memo to determine just how damaging (or not) it really is to the Trump administration.
Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz went on Twitter on Tuesday evening and declared that he had his “subpoena pen ready” in order to get his hands on the Comey memo.
.@GOPoversight is going to get the Comey memo, if it exists. I need to see it sooner rather than later. I have my subpoena pen ready.

This memo needs to be released by the public. The NYT has a pretty sketchy track record when it comes to these sorts of stories, so we can’t just take their word on this.
Before anyone starts making any accusations against the Trump administration, we need all the facts.
