A college student from Washington state became an instant legend on Wednesday evening after spotting a shark in the water near the dock where he was standing. You won’t believe what happened next.
According to the Seattle Times, 19-year-old Alex Winn was standing on a dock in Liberty Bay and noticed a spiny dogfish shark in the water nearby. After quickly diving into the water, he emerged holding the small shark in his hands.
Yes, that’s right. This college student caught a shark with his bare hands.
In a video posted to Instagram, the University of Wisconsin, Eau Clair, sophomore is shown standing on the dockwith a group of friends from high school when they spotted the shark in the water. Winn reacted and quickly dove in.
He emerged seconds later victorious, with the shark in hand as his friends roared with cheers from the dock.
Clearly fighting to maintain his grip, Winn tossed the shark on the dock. A friend was shown holding the fish down as Winn climbed out of the water.
The camera then panned to Winn as he held the fish. Mimicking famous crocodile hunter Steve Irwin, he remarked with an Australian accent, “Crikey, mate, I just caught this little bugger.”
For those concerned about the shark’s welfare, Fox News reported that Winn had the shark out of the water for approximately 30 to 45 seconds. He released it just after the video cut off and ensured it swam off unharmed.
