Now, this is taking the law into your own hands — literally.

Police in La Puente, California, received calls Tuesday morning of a suspicious man following people in a neighborhood. But when officers arrived on the scene, the suspect got on top of a house and began jumping from rooftop to rooftop, leading to a nearly five-hour-long standoff, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Despite the efforts of the police officers and sheriff’s deputies, including a special crisis negotiator, the man refused to come down and continued to jump from house to house. That is, until he reached the home of an 83-year-old man who “got tired” of the suspect’s game and decided to bring it to an end — by pushing the man off the one-story building by himself.

According to KABC, elderly homeowner Wilford Burgess got a ladder from his neighbor, climbed up on his roof and approached the man, who had been up there for about an hour.

Burgess’ granddaughter, Ashley Wren, captured the moment her “papa” ended the standoff by shoving the man off the edge and into the arms of deputies and officers waiting below. CAUTION: Some explicit language.

“I’d made up my mind. I said, ‘He’s on my roof? Whatever it takes, he’s coming off,’” Burgess told KABC, according to the Times.

“I’m going on that roof. That sucker’s coming down,” he added.

The man was immediately taken into custody and transported to a nearby hospital for mental evaluation. There was no word on if he sustained any injuries in the fall off the roof.

“He wasn’t staying in one place. He’d be on one edge and then around on the other parts,” Burgess explained, according to KTLA.

“He’d been up there too long,” the impatient grandpa added. “I figured … if they can’t get him off, I can.”

As for his granddaughter who captured the incident on video, she wasn’t the least bit surprised by what her grandfather had done.

“He’s like the strongest person in our family. I mean, he keeps us all together. … It wasn’t a surprise to us. That’s papa,” Wren stated with a laugh.

This elderly man wasn’t particularly pleased that a man being chased by police had decided to camp out on his roof for an hour, and despite the efforts of authorities to coax him down, took action of his own to bring an end to the stand-off the old school way, with brute force and determination.

And he got the job done.
