Walking Dead stuntman John Bernecker has died from injuries sustained on the set of the hit AMC show.
The 33-year-old was rehearsing a fight scene for the program on Wednesday, which was supposed to end with a routine fall from at 25-foot balcony, but Bernecker lost his footing and fell onto a concrete floor at the Raleigh Studio in Atlanta, Ga.
The stuntman received a traumatic blow to the head and was life-flighted to Atlanta Medical Center.
Bernecker was placed on life support in intensive care, but reportedly succumbed to his injuries Thursday evening.

AMC suspended production of season 8 of the series following the accident.
“We are saddened to report that John Bernecker, a talented stuntman for The Walking Dead and numerous other television shows and films, suffered serious injuries from a tragic accident on set,” AMC said in a statement Thursday. “He was immediately transported to an Atlanta hospital and we have temporarily shut down production. We are keeping John and his family in our thoughts and prayers.”
Bernecker was a veteran stunt performer, fight choreographer and actor, whose credits extend back nearly a decade, according to IMDb.
Some of his most recent projects include Logan, The Fate of the Furious, Olympus Has Fallen, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, The Fantastic Four and the TV series 24: Legacy and Claws.

Bernecker did work on the upcoming films Rampage, starring Dwayne Johnson, and Game Night, starring Rachel McAdams and Jason Bateman. Both films are currently in production.

Those two movies are slated for release in 2018, along with Marvel’s Black Panther, another film Bernecker worked on, which is already in post-production.
