This is the story of Air Force Lt. Heather “Lucky” Penney, who got an intriguing call on the day of the World Trade Center attacks, September 11, 2001, Air Force Lt. Heather “Lucky” Penney.Penney was actually given a major order just as she took off in her unarmed F-16.

As she took off, she was instructed to fly her plane from Andrews Air Force Base and into United Airlines Flight 93. The latter is a Boeing 757 plane that has been taken over by jihadists and terrorists and was supposed to hit D.C. during that very fall.

“We wouldn’t be shooting it down,” she stated in 2015. “I would essentially be a kamikaze pilot.”

Kamikaze for her is, naturally, suicide. What she actually tried to say was that she was instructed to carry out a suicide operation.

“We had to protect the airspace any way we could,” she added.

Due to a recent drill, the planes at Andrews Air Force Base were still packed with dummy bullets.

Penney did what needed to be done and accompanied her commanding officer, Col. Marc Sasseville on a very important mission.into the sky.

By that time, Flight 93 already crashed, because the passengers on the flight won the plane back after challenging the terrorists that tried to hijack it.

“The real heroes are the passengers on Flight 93 who were willing to sacrifice themselves,” Penney said in reference to the passenger’s selfless mission. “I was just an accidental witness to history.”

She, alongside her pilot then carried on escorting former President George W. Bush and clearing the area.

After a decade and a half, Penney is still faithful to the Air Force, actively serving as a major. She also has two daughters.

As the states, not a day goes by without her thinking of what happened back then.

“I genuinely believed that was going to be the last time I took off,” she said. “If we did it right, this would be it.”

Penny gets our respect and admiring for getting the chance to share her story with America and remind us all of how valuable a human life is. For that, we are forever grateful to our heroes who battle terrorism daily.
