Tweet From Comeys Close Friend May Have Implications For Trump

A longtime friend of James Comey sent an ominous tweet Friday suggesting that a bombshell story about the former FBI director and his private interactions with President Donald Trump could be released soon.

Benjamin Wittes, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, posted a cryptic message on Friday that read, “TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK.”

Wittes followed that up with a second tweet suggesting a bombshell report would be published either late Friday night or Monday. Wittes did not specify what the nature of the report would be.

Wittes has used this strategy before. When the New York Times published the context of the memo May 16 from Comey regarding his meetings with Trump, Wittes sent out a similar tweet just prior to suggest a story was coming out against the president.

The Times articles cited a memo — which Comey admitted he leaked to a friend so it would be published by the media — from Comey that detailed a Feb. 14 meeting he had with Trump at the White House.

In the meeting, Comey claimed Trump asked him to ease off the investigation of Gen. Michael Flynn because he was a “good guy.”

Leaks against the president began just after Comey was fired May 9. Comey testified under oath he had previously leaked highly secretive documents.

Wittes tweeted the sanctimonious “tick, tick, tick…” conjecture again on June 6, and the New York Times published an article titled “Comey Told Sessions: Don’t Leave Me Alone With Trump” shortly thereafter.

According to the report, Comey suggested to Attorney General Jeff Sessions that he should not be left alone with Trump in future meetings.

Jay Sekulow, Trump’s attorney, said last week that because Comey stored the memos on government property, it is “clearly a violation of the law” given that Comey subsequently leaked the information to a friend in order to have it released to the media.
