In an incredibly aggressive move, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that he will demand that President Donald Trump take back his support for the Kurdish YPG, or “Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units,” when he visits him later this month.

His language was pretty aggressive, to boot, according to Breitbart.

The United States has been rendering aid to YPG in the interest of fighting the mutual enemy, the Islamic State group.

The Kurds have been essential in the battle against the terrorist organization. As the Conservative Tribune previously reported, “The Kurds have been among the most effective and reliable ground forces since the U.S.-led international coalition launched its air war against the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria in 2014.”

But, as Breitbart explains, Turkey sees YPG as an offshoot of Kurdistan Workers’ Party, the PKK), which is a Marxist group dedicated to the ideal of an independent Kurdistan.

The PKK is regarded as a terrorist organization by not only Turkey, but both the United States and the European Union, according to the Anadolu Agency, an international news agency headquartered in Turkey.

“We would like to believe that our allies will prefer to side with us and not with terrorist organizations,” Edrogan said at a news conference on Wednesday, the Andalou Agency reported.

Erdogan also claimed that Turkey’s “patience has ended” for the United State’s cooperation with the YPG in fighting the Islamic State group.

Ergogan is scheduled to meet with Trump in the U.S. on Tuesday, according to the Andalou Agency, and will be talking about the issue in Brussels May 25.

“I believe that these meetings will ensure the stability of the region and will lead us to reach a conclusion compatible with the realities of Syria,” he said at the news conference.

What Turkey and Erdogan are trying to do is dominate the conversation on the final blows to the Islamic State Group, which is consistent with Erdogan’s recent gambit for greater power.

He recently “won” a referendum which gave him expanded power, which has been heavily criticized as to possibly being rigged. In fact, one Politico writer recently went so far as to say that, “Any media outlet telling you that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan legitimately won the referendum vote is complicit in a historic fraud.”

This is hardly someone genuinely playing the “good guy” on the global stage.
