For the past few weeks, President Donald Trump has been very publicly upset with Attorney General Jeff Sessions, berating him on Twitter and lashing out at him in interviews with the press.
Trump has talked about his frustration due to Sessions recusing himself from the Russia investigation, and he’s said that he believes Sessions hasn’t done enough to crack down on the leakers. On Saturday, that all appeared to change, The Daily Caller reported.
On Twitter, Trump wrote that it was “great” to see Sessions taking a hardline stance against leakers — something that was undoubtedly done to please his boss.
“After many years of LEAKS going on in Washington, it is great to see the A.G. taking action! For National Security, the tougher the better!” he wrote.

Fox News reported that Sessions announced on Friday a broad campaign to track down the leakers in the government. That is undoubtedly what got Trump to start praising his Attorney General again.
“The department will not hesitate to bring lawful and appropriate criminal charges against those who abuse the nation’s trust,” Sessions said during his announcement.
Clearly Sessions was listening to Trump’s complaints about the leakers, and held the press conference in an attempt to show his boss that his department was on top of the problem.
The New York Times noted that Sessions stated that the Justice Department was pursuing “three times as many” leak investigations under the Trump administration as they were in the closing days of the Obama administration.
While Trump may be pleased with Sessions over his announcement on leakers, we don’t know how long this good feeling will last.
Trump is still upset with Sessions over his Russian recusal (something Sessions had to do, by law), so the next time there is a massive Russia story, Sessions could end up in Trump’s crosshairs again.
However, for now it appears that the attorney general is out of Trump’s doghouse, which is a positive development for him, and for the nation.
