Trump Launches New Attack on Sessions Via Twitter

Over the past week, President Donald Trump has lashed out repeatedly at Attorney General Jeff Sessions, blasting him for recusing himself from the Russia investigation and for not investigating former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s alleged crimes.

On Wednesday morning, Trump continued his attacks on Sessions in a pair of new tweets, hitting him for not firing acting FBI director Andrew McCabe, Newsmax reported.

“Why didn’t A.G. Sessions replace Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, a Comey friend who was in charge of Clinton investigation but got big dollars ($700,000) for his wife’s political run from Hillary Clinton and her representatives. Drain the Swamp!” Trump wrote in the pair of tweets.

The Washington Examiner reported that the Justice Department is investigating if McCabe should have recused himself from the Clinton investigation.

McCabe’s wife, Jill McCabe, received almost $700,000 in donations from organizations that are loosely tied to the Clintons when she ran for Senate in 2015.

Shortly after Trump fired former FBI Director James Comey, some speculated that Trump would replace McCabe while he looked for a permanent replacement.

The assumption that a better replacement was soon coming could explain why Sessions didn’t immediately move against McCabe — he didn’t think McCabe would last long, so he didn’t see the need to cause another political firestorm.

Trump’s nominee for FBI director, Christopher Wray, is still awaiting a confirmation vote, which means that for the time being Trump is stuck with McCabe — something that is clearly irritating him to no end.

At this point it is unclear where the Trump-Sessions feud is going to lead. Politico reported that people who work for Sessions have told the White House that he has no plans to resign — despite Trump’s attacks against him.

Many Republicans and prominent conservative groups have come out strongly in favor of Sessions, which may be stopping Trump from simply firing him immediately.

Hopefully Trump and Sessions can sit down and work out their differences. There is too much at stake right now for our president to be consumed with quarrels with the attorney general.
