Legendary musician Toby Keith’s daughter, country singer Krystal Keith, revealed in an Instagram post Friday that she nearly died in a “horrific” car crash this week.
“Our 4th turned pretty horrific,” she wrote. “Hensley, Drew and I were on the way to watch fireworks on the 4th. A drunk driver almost took the lives of my entire family.”
Included with the post was a picture of the car. It was a nightmarish sight.
Take a look:
By Drew and Hensley she meant her husband, Andrew Robert Sandubrae, and her daughter, Hensley Jack Sandubrae.
“We all survived the wreck but it’s gonna take some time to heal,” she added. “Keep us in your prayers. Hug your babies and spouses tight. DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE.”
Keith and her family were very lucky to make it out of the crash alive. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 28 Americans die daily “in motor vehicle crashes that involve an alcohol-impaired driver.”
Born in 1985, Keith has followed the path of her father, who rose to stardom in 1993 with his debut single, “Should’ve Been a Cowboy.”
“I don’t remember a time when I didn’t sing,” she recalls on her website. “My sister likes to tell stories about me singing at the top of my lungs and points out, ‘That was before you could sing good.’ She had to learn how to sing harmony just so she could hear herself over me. But I was always a little ham and sang pretty much everywhere I went.”
It wasn’t until 2004 that she began acquiring national attention. It was that year that she sang “Mockingbird” with her father on an awards show. Nine years later, she released her first album, and the rest is history. But thankfully, neither she nor her family are themselves history quite yet, no thanks to the idiotic drunk driver who almost killed them.
Drinking and driving is a dangerous combination, that can too easily be deadly.
