Sometimes, in incredibly dire situations, pet owners give up their furry friends in hopes that someone with more means will find them. As heartbreaking as it is, they know that someone else could give their pet a better life.
When the owner is having a hard enough time taking care of themselves, it is understandable that they would make the sacrifice of giving up their pet. It is not fair for an innocent animal to suffer when they don’t need to.
Recently, an abandoned puppy was found in an airport bathroom. What was found with the puppy has gotten people talking.
Not only was the owner being abused, but her ex-boyfriend had also kicked Chewy in the head during a fight. The poor puppy had a knot on his little head from the incident.
She had fled to the airport to get away from the relationship. When she realized that she couldn’t afford to pay to get the puppy, named Chewy, onto the flight, she was devastated.
Knowing she didn’t have another choice, she wrote the note and left Chewy in the bathroom in hopes that someone would find him. Thankfully, he was found by a kind woman who took him to a rescue shelter.
The note that was left is absolutely heartbreaking to read. You can tell how much it hurt Chewy’s owner to leave him.
“Hi! I’m Chewy! My owner was in an abusive relationship and couldn’t afford me to get on the flight. She didn’t want to leave me with all her heart but she has NO other option. My ex-boyfriend kicked my dog when we were fighting and he has a big knot on his head. He probably needs a vet. I love Chewy sooo much – please love and take care of him,” read the note.
Amazingly, there has been a huge amount of interest in adopting Chewy. Because only one family will end up with Chewy, the shelter urges people to consider adopting other pets in honor of the special pup.
It is reassuring to know that there are so many good people still in the world. Hopefully Chewy’s owner has found a safe place, and has seen the news reports about the happy fate of her beloved pooch.
