It just got a little harder for Tim Tebow’s detractors to call his impressive run with the St. Lucie Mets a fluke.
In the seventh inning of the Mets’ game Saturday against the Charlotte Stone Crabs, Tebow came to the plate with two runners on base. After working the count to 2-2, he connected on a deep shot over the left field fence.

The blast, Tebow’s fifth since joining the St. Lucie Mets in June, gave his team a 10-3 lead. The former NFL quarterback is now batting .301 through 31 games with High-A St. Lucie.
Tim Tebow hit a 3-run HR today (his 5th in high-A). He entered today batting .303 with an OPS of .884.
But yeah, gimmick something or other

Tebow has been St. Lucie’s most consistent offensive threat since joining the team. While a promotion to MLB before the end of the season still seems unlikely, it would not be a shock to see Tebow bumped up to the Mets’ AA affiliate, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
The one thing that’s certain is the countless media outlets that branded Tebow’s baseball career as a gimmick owe him an apology.
