Conservatives around the nation were stunned last week when ABC abruptly canceled the popular TV show “Last Man Standing,” featuring former “Home Improvement” star Tim Allen.
Many have speculated that ABC canceled the show due to its political nature, as it frequently promoted conservative values and poked fun at political correctness and other liberal agendas.
ABC has denied those claims. On Tuesday, Allen went on Twitter and broke his silence on the surprising news.
“Stunned and blindsided by the network I called home for the last six years,” he wrote in the tweet, which had over 60,000 likes and 24,000 retweets as of Thursday morning.

A petition on Change.org demanding ABC reverse its decision garnered over 300,000 signatures as of Thursday morning.
According to Deadline, “Last Man Standing” was ABC’s second most-watched comedy this season, finishing with 8.1 million just behind the more left-leaning “Modern Family” at 8.7 million. “Modern Family” has recently been renewed for two more seasons.
Many have weighed in on the cancellation, including conservative actor James Woods who said it was Allen’s willingness to set himself apart from the rest of Hollywood that led to the show being canceled.
You’re just a fantastic talent, Tim. Too bad you also have a brain and a few opinions of your own. Looks like that cost you your job. https://t.co/c7uaOACJ3U

MRCTV reported that ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey defended the network’s decision, saying ABC has canceled other successful shows in the past.
“A large part of these jobs are managing failure and we’ve made the tough calls and canceled shows that we’d otherwise love to stay on the air,” he said.
How agenda-driven does a business have to be to cancel a show with superior ratings and no sign of losing traction?
Ultimately, we may never know with 100 percent certainty why ABC chose to cancel Allen’s show. However, it’s obvious there’s a huge market for wholesome conservative shows out there, especially given the overwhelmingly liberal entertainment media.
Any smart TV executive watching this unfold should seriously consider creating another show like “Last Man Standing.” It could be quite profitable for them.
