Tiger Woods has released a statement following his arrest for a DUI in the early hours of Monday morning.
Woods was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail at 7:18 a.m. and released at 10:50 a.m. The arrest occurred near his home in Jupiter, Florida.
In his statement, made Monday evening to USA Today’s Steve DiMeglio, Woods claimed that alcohol played no role in the incident.
“I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved,” Woods wrote.
“What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescription medications. I didn’t realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly.”
Woods also included an apology.
“I would like to apologize with all my heart to my family, friends and the fans. I expect more from myself too,” the former No. 1 golfer in the world wrote.
Interestingly, he included a thank you to the police departments responsible for his arrest.
“I would like to personally thank the representatives of the Jupiter Police Department and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office for their professionalism,” Woods concluded.

Woods’ claim that alcohol was not involved conflicts with earlier unconfirmed reports that stated officers smelled alcohol on his breath.
According to Golf.com, the police report regarding the arrest will be released Tuesday, which should clear up some of the discrepancies.
