After enduring days of ridicule from media outlets saying he couldn’t cut it at the next level, Tim Tebow finally arrived in Port St. Lucie, Florida, to try his hand at High-A baseball.
His first game with the St. Lucie Mets was due to be Tuesday, but a rain-out set up a Wednesday doubleheader with the Palm Beach Cardinals.
Tebow got the start in the designated hitter spot, batting eighth in the order. He came to the plate in the third inning to raucous cheers from the clearly pro-Tebow crowd. Despite the support, he struck out in three pitches.
When the former Heisman winner stepped into the batter’s box in the fifth inning, however, it was a completely different story. Tebow chopped a first-pitch fastball up the middle for a base hit.

Yes, it is just one hit, but it does help justify Tebow playing at this level. A player who was completely in over his head would not even sniff a hit in his second at-bat.

In his third at-bat Wednesday, Tebow reached base on a walk.
The Mets went on to lose to the Cardinals 4-2 in a seven-inning game.
