Senator Who Went Against Obamacare Repeal Gets Offer From Top Dem

For the past few months, Republicans have been working furiously to follow through on their campaign promise to repeal and replace Obamacare, but there have been a few GOP senators who just won’t play ball.

While a handful of hardcore conservatives have made life difficult for the repeal and replace efforts, several moderate Republicans have also made things difficult, including Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski, according to The Daily Caller.

Murkowski was one of two Republican senators who voted against starting the debate on the repeal and replace process on Tuesday — much to the delight of one Democrat.

Former DNC chair Howard Dean went on Twitter on Thursday morning and invited Murkowski to join the Democrat party. This invitation came after reports surfaced that the Trump administration had threatened to punish Alaska if she, and her fellow Alaska senator, Dan Sullivan, voted against the bill.

“Lisa Murkowski would be welcomed as a Moderate Democrat! What has Trump ever done for Alaska?” Dean wrote.

President Donald Trump also weighed in on Murkowski’s decision to vote against starting debate, writing on Twitter that she had let the country down.

“Senator Lisa Murkowski of the Great State of Alaska really let the Republicans, and our country, down yesterday. Too Bad!” Trump wrote on Wednesday morning.

CNN noted that Murkowski was also one of three Republicans to vote against the so-called “skinny repeal” plan early Friday morning, effectively killing the Republican efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare.

It is unclear if Murkowski’s opposition to the repeal and replace efforts will damage her chances of re-election. The Republican repeal and replace bill was horribly unpopular to begin with, so Murkowski’s opposition to it might not doom her.

On the other hand, she is partly responsible for Republicans not being able to follow through on their campaign promises of the past seven years, so primary voters might not look kindly on that.

Right now we will just have to wait and see what comes next in terms of replacing (if that is even an option anymore) Obamacare. Hopefully, the Republicans won’t just simply give up after this latest setback.
