An Ohio man has helped a young girl avoid tragedy after following his intuition that something was very wrong. It was Sept. 16 in Golf Manor, Ohio, when Nazier Elahee noticed a bizarre scene taking place before his eyes.
Elahee noticed a middle-aged man walking down the sidewalk. He was accompanied by a young girl, but appeared to be forcefully dragging her along.
“I noticed that a man was walking down the street toting a girl behind her pulling her by the wrist,” Elahee told KXIX. Could have been a simple parent-child argument perhaps, but Elahee waited to see if it were something more.
Elahee made eye contact with the girl. She mouthed two words that sent chills down his spine.
“Help me!” the wide-eyed, frightened girl mouthed. She repeated the phrase again, desperately hoping Elahee would understand.
Elahee immediately questioned the pair, trying to figure out what was happening. The 11-year-old girl denied knowing the man.
Elahee then asked the man if he knew the girl. “He said, ‘no, I’m taking her home,’” Elahee recalled.
At that point, Elahee called the police. Caught red-handed, 37-year-old Jessie Woodard Jr. tried to run away.
Video footage shows Woodard trying to flee, with Elahee in pursuit. Elahee chased the man until police caught up with the pair at a local food mart.
Woodard has since been charged with kidnapping. Elahee is left thankful that he was in the right place at the right time.
“If he had gotten that little girl to wherever he was going to, she could have been raped — killed,” Elahee expressed. “If I could have done something else I would have, but the right thing to do was to call the police and keep the girl safe.”
