In autumn of 2016, just one short year ago, Hillary Clinton was so far ahead in the polls that she actually said “I don’t even think about responding to (Donald Trump) anymore.” All that was left to be decided, we were told, were the curtains she would use in the Oval Office.
Just 10 months after she made that statement, Clinton has been reduced to hawking an off-brand social media startup designed to insulate her supporters in a bubble. And — what do you know? — it was cyber-attacked shortly after she endorsed it!
According to CNET, the attack hit with within an hour of Clinton’s promotional tweet. The site is back up and and running — and deadly dull — but the hack attack is not likely a good omen for its future.
The whole thing began when Clinton took to Twitter to promote Verrit. According to the technology website Recode, the new social media platform is run by Peter Daou, formerly of sycophantic pro-Clinton website ShareBlue. He says Clinton supporters “continue to be marginalized and harassed,” and apparently does so with a straight face.
“Verrit’s purpose is to become their trusted source of political information and analysis; to provide them (and anyone like-minded) sanctuary in a chaotic media environment; to center their shared principles; and to do so with an unwavering commitment to truth and facts,” the website’s mission statement reads.
A whole social media platform devoted to Hillary Clinton? That’s pretty exciting news — if you’re Hillary Clinton.
“I’m excited to sign up for @Verrit, a media platform for the 65.8 million!” Clinton tweeted, referring to her vote total. “Will you join me and sign up too?”
Yes, last year she was preparing to move into the White House. This year, she’s hawking her own personal garden of pure ideology, where each snowflake may bloom, secure from the pests purveying contradictory truths. And, lo and behold, it was taken down shortly afterwards by a cyber-attack. Daou said that the instigator of the DOS attack isn’t yet known, but Vegas is giving 3-1 odds someone blames Russia before Wednesday.
Rest assured, you weren’t missing much if you tried to visit the site when it was down. It looks kind of like a cross between a bulletin board and Twitter — if Twitter were stuck in 2005. Some of the “verrits” are inadvertently hilarious, though:
My guess is that this very salient report was assembled by the fine people at the Institute for Hillary Clinton Greatness Studies at #ImWithHer University.
So it’s a poorly programmed social media platform designed to insulate people who still think that Donald Trump is in the White House because the mainstream media didn’t treat Hillary Clinton with enough deference? As Twitchy noted, the denizens of Twitter didn’t quite get it.
Yeah, I don’t get it either.
Enjoy your safe space, though, Hillary. I’m sure living in a bubble can be just as satisfying as living at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
