Roger Ailes Former Emperor of Fox News Dead at 77

Roger Ailes, the man who built Fox News into the political juggernaut it is today, has died at the age of 77.

A source reportedly told TMZ that the death came after a fall that resulted in a head injury eight days ago.

However, as The New York Times noted, Ailes’ wife, Elizabeth, did not mention any cause of death in her announcement of his passing.

“I am profoundly sad and heartbroken to report that my husband, Roger Ailes, passed away this morning,” his wife, Elizabeth, said in a statement, according to CNN.

“Roger was a loving husband to me, to his son Zachary, and a loyal friend to many,” she added. “He was also a patriot, profoundly grateful to live in a country that gave him so much opportunity to work hard, to rise — and to give back.”

Another conservative media giant, Rupert Murdoch, the man who hired Roger Ailes to create Fox, reported that the staff at Fox News was greatly saddened to hear about Ailes’ passing, according to CNN Business.

“He will be remembered by the many people on both sides of the camera that he discovered, nurtured and promoted,” Murdoch stated according to CNN Business. “Roger and I shared a big idea which he executed in a way no one else could have.”

Roger Ailes was nothing if not a man who stirred controversy. But love him or hate him, laud him or lambaste him, there is no question that he was a defining force of conservative news and a political powerhouse for decades.
