Two women were arrested this week after police said one woman injected illegal drugs into the other while she was in labor in September, according to WMUR.
The New Hampshire mother, 29-year-old Felicia Farruggia, was experiencing labor in her home but refused to let anyone call 911 until she had been provided drugs — which 37-year-old Rhianna Frenette gave her, CBS stated, citing police reports.
“Frenette attempted to inject Farruggia with an unsanitary syringe at least once before she successfully delivered a dose of the drug,” police reportedly said.
An ambulance arrived shortly after the injection, and Farruggia delivered a baby boy on the way to the ambulance. Both the mother and child were rushed to the hospital, where they remained for several days.
The addict’s reckless behavior affected the child, as well. According to court documents cited by WMUR, the baby’s urine tested positive for methamphetamine.
The disturbing nature of the incident was not lost on the police.
Concord Police Lt. Sean Ford said that is showed “(c)omplete disregard, really, for the value of human life,” according to CBS.
Fortunately for the child, he has been put into state care, and is out of the reach of her mother.
It is staggering to think of a mother so desperate for a high that she would endanger the life of an unborn child, but unfortunately they’re out there.
Hopefully Farruggia will receive the help she so desperately needs.
