An man attempting to break into a San Antonio home was shot and killed by the homeowner, but what the police found that had been brought with the would-be home invader has left everyone stunned and disturbed.
According to the San Antonio Express-News, a woman living on the northeast side of town was awoken from an afternoon nap to hear a man breaking into the window of the bedroom where she had been sleeping.
The woman immediately grabbed a handgun and fired two shots through the window, striking the intruder once and putting an end to his illicit foray into her home.
When police arrived the suspect was transported to the San Antonio Military Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, as police surveyed the scene, they made an incredibly disheartening discovery about the now-dead criminal — his 7-year-old son who had been brought along with him on the attempted break-in.
“We’re gonna get help for him,” was all SAPD Chief William McManus could say of the little boy who was taken into custody.
According to KABB, the would-be burglar was identified as 39-year-old James Carney of New Braunfels, Texas. His 7-year-old son, who has not been named, had been left sitting in the car while his father attempted to break into the home.
Though the incident remained under investigation, it was unlikely that the homeowner will face any charges in the matter.
The fact that this man who felt compelled to burglarize homes also felt the need to bring his young son along only makes the story sadder, especially when one considers how that young boy’s life is now changed dramatically forever by his father’s foolish, illicit actions.
