The Army has begun holding compulsory transgender sensitivity training for officers, soldiers and civilians as part of the Pentagon’s effort to establish a welcoming environment for transgendered people.
The Army held the first sessions on Tuesday, which were geared to help the service implement policies on transgender troops and to “assist soldiers who have a medical diagnosis indicating that gender transition is medically necessary through the gender transition process,” USA Today reported.
There’s just one problem: We have bigger fish to fry.
Namely, the state of our military’s readiness, which in Defense Secretary James Mattis’ opinion, is poor.
On Monday, Mattis said he was “shocked” by the state of the U.S. military’s readiness for combat, CBS News reported.
In his testimony before the House Armed Services Committee, Mattis blamed Congress for not approving budgets in a timely manner or repealing laws that limit defense spending.
Congress has “blocked new programs, prevented service growth, stalled industry initiative and placed troops at greater risk,” Mattis said.
“For all the heartache caused by the loss of our troops during these wars, no enemy in the field has done more to harm the readiness of our military than sequestration,” he added.
And now this. It would seem that the primary concern for the military is preparedness, not training its troops on how to handle the minuscule number of service members who can’t seem to grasp the sexual identity they were born with.
The Obama-era mandate that would have allowed transgender troops to serve in the military beginning in July has been delayed, USA Today reported, adding that the Army said it needed two more years and the Marines one year to examine concerns about the issue that include cost and readiness.
It seems as though priorities regarding this matter are all wrong. The military should to be ready to defend this nation before it turns its focus on being ready to accept transgender soldiers.
