A new Islamic State group propaganda video threatened Las Vegas as a potential target for future terror attacks.
According to KTNV, the video was released after Sunday’s terror attack in Manchester, England, that killed 22 people and injured dozens more. As part of their call for attacks on the West, terrorist leaders threatened some of America’s famous landmarks.
The newest recruitment and propaganda video featured the Las Vegas strip, famously known for its clubs, casinos and restaurants. The city is constantly filled with tourists, with more than 39 million people visiting each year.
Counter-terrorism officials also warned businesses on the strip to stay vigilant and alert authorities of any suspicious activity, according to KLAS.
Retired FBI agent Dave Shepherd told the news agency the video did not surprise him, noting that businesses must stay vigilant and work together to combat potential threats.
“Las Vegas has kind of been a terrorism target for a long time,” Shepherd said. “It’s a matter of passing information, understanding exactly what’s going on in the city, what’s good, what’s bad, and that’s a daily occurrence.”
“Groups are always looking at other ways to try to get something done, so you always have to stay one step ahead of them,” he added.
This was not the first time Las Vegas has appeared in an Islamic State group propaganda video. Last June, the city appeared alongside other famous tourist centers, such as New York City and Washington, D.C.
Let’s hope that whatever precautions are taken by authorities will be enough to prevent an attack like this on our soil.
