Just last week, the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey was being labeled as the most expensive disaster in United States history, but now it looks like the record books may have to be changed once again.

Hurricane Irma is currently heading straight for the Caribbean/South Florida as a Category 5 hurricane with winds of 185 mph as of Wednesday evening, according to the U.K. Independent. Irma is now one of the most powerful hurricanes ever recorded in the Atlantic, The Washington Post reported.

Irma is so strong that it is actually at the theoretical limit for how strong hurricanes can be. If its wind speed increases anymore, they may have to come up with new categories for hurricanes, because nothing like has been seen before.

CNN reported that even though it is still unclear what parts of Florida Hurricane Irma will strike, people are already stocking up on food and water in preparation to ride out whatever Irma brings their way.

Evacuations are already starting. Special needs residents will be evacuated from Miami-Dade on Wednesday, with schools closing their doors on Thursday and Friday.

The Guardian noted that on Wednesday morning, Hurricane Irma made its first landfall on the island of Barbuda, causing immense devastation. The storm is expected to devastate parts of the Caribbean as it continues along its path.

President Donald Trump has already approved emergency declarations for Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the state of Florida in advance of the hurricane’s expected impact.

The severity of this storm cannot be overestimated. If the words “strongest hurricane in recorded history” aren’t enough to convince you to evacuate, perhaps take a look at images of what the last Category 5 hurricane to hit Florida, Hurricane Andrew, did.

We’ll give you a hint — the images look similar to what happened to Hiroshima after a nuclear bomb went off.

We are in uncharted waters here with this hurricane. If you live in Florida, it is time to seriously think about either stocking up on food, or temporarily leaving until the danger is passed.

Don’t underestimate the power of this storm. That could be a mistake you won’t survive.
