During an interview with a San Francisco television station that aired Tuesday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., referred to President Donald Trump as “President Bush,” at least the fifth time she has made such an error.
“Everything we have seen so far, though, with the president has been about tax cuts for the rich,” she said in the interview with KTVU. “In fact, affecting California very directly, is the Affordable Care Act. President Bush has come out against that, as you know, and it is not even a health care bill. The Republican bill is not even a health care bill. It’s a tax bill disguised as a health care bill.”
She had presumably mistaken Trump for 43rd President George W. Bush, though it is possible she may instead have been talking about his father, 41st President George H.W. Bush.
This was the second time in a span of just over a month that Pelosi had mistaken Trump for one of the Bushes.
“New Yorkers have said to me, those who have had business dealings with him, he operates this way,” Pelosi said during a weekly press conference in early June, taking aim at President Trump’s character. “First he tries to charm you. President Bush tries to charm you. If that doesn’t work … “
Though a reporter tried to correct her, she ignored him and continued speaking until an aide informed her of her mistake. Then, she apologized for her error.
Only weeks before the presser, she again confused the two presidents while speaking at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco about her battles with Republicans over abortion.
“For decades I’ve served in Congress, and for decades I’ve had to fight the Republicans’ opposition to birth control, contraception and family planning,” she said.
“They do not believe in it. And a lot of those people voted for George … for, what’s his name?”
As of Thursday, the House minority leader had yet to issue a correction over her latest blunder.
