Eleven years ago Miss USA 2006 Tara Conner almost lost her crown due to underage drinking and drug abuse, but the President Donald Trump helped her with her addiction by giving her a second chance.
Conner is sober for ten years now and she has recently written an op-ed where she thanks, President Donald Trump for giving her a chance to get help for her problem. Conner opened up about her substance abuse when she was Miss USA in an interview with the Fox News and she explained how Trump has helped her get back on track.
“Donald Trump had two options. To fire me or to give me a chance to get help and thank God he chose to give me that chance because it was a huge step forward to the recovery,” she said. She also stated that she believed that he saw how good she was and had understood very well what I was going through, having lost a brother to alcoholism.”
The Kentucky beauty still praises Trump for offering her a treatment and she is now focused on making that opportunity for the 22 million US citizens that struggle with addiction.
“I feel as though every American should be given the same chance that I was given,” Tara Conner explained. “Addiction and substance misuse, are progressive diseases and the leading cause of death for people who are 50 and under.”
Trump and Conner have stayed in contact through the years and they even raised money for the Caron Treatment Centers. Conner who is now an ambassador for the Facing Addiction organization is once again calling for the president’s help.
Conner stated that he has the possibility to save so many people as over 40 million Americans struggle with addiction and they are not treated. She even supported people to go to facingaddiction.org and sign a letter that will be submitted to Trump and let their voice be heard.
She stated that her goal is to save as many lives as possible and show the people that there is a way out of the disease of addiction.”
