After delivering a blistering speech at the United Nations on Tuesday, President Donald Trump will be holding several high level meetings with world leaders at the U.N. to discuss a range of issues. On Monday, Trump met with French President Emmanuel Macron, and the pair held a brief photo op before their meeting.
During the photo op, Trump reminisced about his time in France, and suggested that he would like the next American Independence Day parade in Washington to be similar to the Bastille Day parade he attended in France earlier this year, The Daily Caller reported.
“So we’re actually thinking about Fourth of July, Pennsylvania Avenue, having a really great parade to show our military strength,” Trump explained.
Having military equipment streaming down Pennsylvania Avenue for an Independence Day parade would certainly be a sight that wouldn’t be easily forgotten.
Trump’s fascination with military parades isn’t anything new. The Huffington Post reported in March that the Trump inaugural team had briefly considering having military vehicles in the inaugural parade, but that was scrapped for a number of reasons.
Bloomberg reported that Trump actually got the idea for a military parade right after the Bastille Day parade, and actually made a few phone calls about setting something like that up in the United States.
“We’re going to have to try to top it, but we have a lot of planes going over and a lot of military might, and it was really a beautiful thing to see, and representatives from different wars and different uniforms,” Trump explained.
It is unclear logistically if something like this would even be possible. The optics of such a parade could be difficult, because military parades are most often associated with countries like North Korea and the former Soviet Union.
Of course, any display of military might would send liberals into rage sweats and have them trampling eachother in an attempt to get to the nearest safe space.
However, if anyone could successfully pull something like this off, Trump could.
Trump is very proud of the military and confident in its abilities. That was evident during his speech at the U.N. on Tuesday, when he called on the world body to confront North Korea’s nuclear ambitions, and criticized the ruling mullahs of Tehran as a “rogue nation,” according to The New York Times.
He wants the whole world to see just how powerful this nation really is.
