Hurricane Harvey hit Texas with incredibly powerful winds and storm surge. But worst of all was the immense amounts of rain that flooded large parts of affected areas.
Many people were forced to evacuate their homes and towns. The flood waters will have destroyed houses, cars, and precious possessions.
But one couple won’t have to worry about such things. They were prepared for the flood, with this novel device.
A couple in Rosenberg, Texas, saved their home and all of their possessions amid the unprecedented flooding causing by Hurricane Harvey by building an Aqua Dam around their property.
Once again, Texas displayed the true spirit of self-reliance.
Randy and Jennifer Socha told KPRC-TV that their home was hit $150,000 worth of flood damage in 2016, so the couple knew they needed to act when they saw Hurricane Harvey barreling toward Texas.
They paid $18,000 for the Aqua Dam and it was reportedly delivered from Louisiana in just hours…
“The Aqua Dam has watertight inner and outer tubes made of strong fabric. The tubes fill up with on-site water that needs to be pumped out.
Randy Socha said he and his wife pumped water out for three to four days as flooding continued, but the hard work was worth it in the end…”
Even when the flooding was at its worst, the Sochas’ Aqua Dam held and protected their home. Needless to say, they feel like the $18,000 was money well spent.
It sounded like a lot of hard work to get the water dam to function. But in the end they were able to spare their home and possessions from the damaging flood waters. Flood waters are unrelenting. They break through walls, destroy foundations, and can ruin every last bit of your home.
But because of previous experience and a little bit of foresight, this couple was able to prevent massive amounts of damage.
You may never need that kind of contraption, but take a lesson from the Socha’s. A little bit of hard work and preparation can yield impressive results.
