Kellyanne Conway is a lot like Texas: you don’t mess with her. Whether it’s rankling the liberal media or verbally taking down hecklers, the White House counselor has proved she’ll respond to any attack with aplomb.
The hosts of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” found that out after they claimed Conway was merely in it for the money.
According to The New York Times, hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski claimed on their Monday show that when Conway would appear as Trump’s campaign manager, she made it clear in private that she detested candidate Trump and was only involved for career reasons.
“She would get off the air, the camera would be turned off, the microphone would be taken off, and she would say ‘Blech, I need to take a shower,’ because she disliked her candidate so much,” Brzezinski said.
“I guess she’s just used to it now,” she added. Co-host Scarborough — a former Republican congressman who also happens to be Brzezinski’s fiance, for whatever that’s worth — echoed those sentiments, saying Conway was only in it for the money.
In a picture post on Twitter, Conway disputed the claims vigorously and accused the “Morning Joe” crew of having an inherent bias.
“The hosts of MSNBC’s Morning Joe have become virulent critics of the President and those close to him,” Conway wrote. “Ignoring insults and insinuations is a valuable skill. But when sentiments are attributed to me that are not true, it is necessary to respond. My beliefs, commitments and loyalties are plain to see.
“The notion that I am serving for ‘the money’ or a ‘paycheck’ is absurd,” she continued. “As campaign manager, I made a fraction of what other consultants have made on unsuccessful presidential campaigns. Then I walked away from dozens of opportunities for millions of dollars, and instead walked into the White House. I would do it again.”

“It is a privilege to assist president Trump in the White House, just as it was during the campaign,” Conway concluded. “I know him, I respect him, I believe in him, and I am confident in his capacity to be a transformative and successful president.”
I suppose if the media wanted to sow seeds of distrust in an Iago-like fashion, Conway wouldn’t be a bad place to start. While she’s close to the president, it’s worth pointing out that she originally started out the 2016 presidential campaign season with a PAC that supported Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and had suspicious links to Carly Fiorina (Cruz’s “running mate” for something like four days, if you will remember).
However, Conway is a major power player in the political arena and the business world. This is someone who could have made big money by going into the private sector or by joining another conservative interest group. The fact that she’s in the White House, where she endures constant attacks from the national media, proves a surprising level of commitment.
Rather hilariously, the comment about being in it for the money came from Joe Scarborough, a one-time GOP congressman who left politics for television and has now shacked up with his co-host, an unapologetic liberal and the daughter of Zbigniew Brzezinski, Democrat President Jimmy Carter’s national security advisor.
