Hollywood elitists never take a holiday from being bellicose minor-league pundits for the left, eager to shame Americans for staking out a political position anywhere to the right of Trotsky — not even on an actual holiday.
That’s at least the lesson to be learned from an insane tweet by liberal writer and director Joss Whedon for Mother’s Day, in which he expressed gratitude that his mother was dead so that she wouldn’t have to experience the horror that is President Donald Trump.
Yes, you read that correctly: Joss Whedon would rather see his mother dead than have her experience the results of the American electoral process.
“Today I gratefully give my mother the gift of having been dead for 25 years and not having to see what a tub of f***ery our country’s become,” the director of “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and creator of the TV series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” tweeted.
Sadly, this isn’t the first time Whedon has embarrassed himself in 140 characters or fewer. Earlier this spring, House Speaker Paul Ryan had met with a group of teenage cancer survivors in Washington, providing a photo opportunity Whedon couldn’t help but comment on.
Look, if you dare:
A class act all around. On that occasion, the outcry was strong enough that Whedon was forced to delete the tweet and fire off a pro forma apology.
So I tweeted something that inadvertently offended everyone except the people I was trying to offend. I’m sorry. I’ll be quiet for a bit.

That tweet was on April 27. Whedon’s tweet thanking whatever merciful deity he believes in for taking his mother before she could be disappointed in the will of the American people was issued 17 days later.
In other words, it took him less than three weeks from the date he talked about underage teenage cancer survivors being considered as “White House wives” to expressing thanks that his mother had died before Trump’s election. The Mother’s Day tweet remains up as of early Monday morning.
You say you’re going to be quiet for a bit, Joss. I think we need to have a little discussion about what “a bit” entails.
