Jeff Bridges: I’m Rooting for Trump

Jeff Bridges Im Rooting for Trump

When it comes to Donald Trump’s presidency, the Dude is abiding — at least, by the hope that he does a good job.

In an interview with the Associated Press, acting legend Jeff Bridges — perhaps best known for his role as the protagonist in “The Big Lebowski” — weighed in on President Trump, and liberals definitely aren’t going to like what he had to say.

In the interview promoting the “No Kid Hungry” campaign after an appearance at a child hunger panel at the Western Governors Conference in Montana, the Hollywood icon eschewed the tropes of “the resistance,” saying he was “rooting for (Trump) as a human being.”

“Everybody has something different and unique to contribute to society and with different ways of doing it,” Bridges, a Hillary Clinton supporter, said in the Wednesday interview.

“Some people will be blatantly out there talking about their disappointments and ridiculing the way President Trump is acting,” he continued. “I’m rooting for him to do well by our country … I’m rooting for him as a human being to do the cool thing.”

According to the Washington Times, this isn’t the first time Bridges has made comments hoping that the president succeeds. After the election, he praised Trump for his “unpredictability.”

“I hope we don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater here. But I’m rooting for the guy, Mr. Trump,” he said.

“One of the things that’s most appealing about him is his unpredictability,” Bridges continued. “A less kind word might be his hypocrisy, but unpredictability and hypocrisy are things that each of us human being share. It’s something we all struggle with and work with. I’m rooting for the guy, but we’ll see how it all goes. You just don’t know how it will all work out.”

Bridges obviously isn’t a conservative, and one doesn’t expect to see him headlining a meeting of the Federalist Society anytime soon. However, he’s trying to keep an open mind. This is a lot more than we can say from celebrities like Johnny Depp, Joss Whedon, Kathy Griffin and Rob Reiner.

Anger is the only operative mentality in Hollywood right now, it seems. It’s good to see that at least someone is rejecting this.
