The godfather of late night entertainment has a harsh message for the new wave of “comedy” aimed exclusively at President Donald Trump: Your Trump jokes are getting old.

According to the New York Post’s Page Six, former “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno has reportedly grown weary of the nearly constant attacks on late night talk shows that bash President Donald Trump.

Leno said on Wednesday that the frequent jokes bashing the president can get monotonous.

“I enjoy bringing people together,” he said. “If (mocking the president) is a constant thing on a nightly basis, eventually you’re all doing the same joke.”

Leno made similar comments on Monday to The Hollywood Reporter. While he’s not a big fan of the president, he stated that repeating the same jokes that mock the president has a negative effect on viewers.

“I don’t like Trump,” he said. “But the constant negative Trump stuff on a nightly basis? I think it has a debilitating effect on people.”

Eventually, Leno said, viewers will be reluctant to tune in.

“People are just, ‘Oh, gosh, I don’t wanna watch TV anymore,’” Leno remarked. “This is just the same thing every night.”

Current “Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon follows Leno’s approach and also prefers to limit the amount of Trump jokes on his show.

“There’s only so many bits you can do,” he said. “I’m happy that only 50 percent of my monologue is about Trump.”

Leno’s comments come at a time when liberal late night hosts like Bill Maher, Stephen Colbert and Samantha Bee devote virtually their entire monologues to Trump attacks each night on their shows.

Finally, someone has taken liberal late night hosts to task for their almost constant barrage of anti Trump jokes. While Leno certainly made his fair share of presidential jokes during his legendary career, he knows what the people want and a comic diet of nothing but anti-Trump jokes is not it.

While Trump certainly has his flaws and faults, late night hosts need to find something new to joke about before they find themselves on the wrong end of a joke.
