Fox News has undergone one change after another during the past several months.
The news channel’s most recent change will definitely cause some ripples in the world of the mainstream media. Fox News host Sean Hannity will be moving to the 9 p.m. time slot, and conservative pundit Laura Ingraham will take over the 10 p.m. slot, The American Thinker reported.
Hannity, who made the announcement toward the end of his show Monday night, made sure to include a subtle jab at his future competitors in the process.
“In the month of August, for example, we were number two in cable because for some bizarre reason. Conspiracy theory TV is working right now. But with your help and if you help us spread the word, give us a little time, we’re planning on being number one with your help,” Hannity said.
While making the announcement, viewers noticed that Hannity was holding a pair of reading glasses — which is not typical for him.
When reached for comment about the glasses, Hannity explained that they were just subtle jab at MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow and CNN’s Anderson Cooper — both of whom he will be directly competing against in his new time slot.
In addition to Hannity’s move, “The Five” will be moving back to 5:00 p.m., after not doing particularly well with ratings in the later time slot. This move allows Hannity to be bumped to the 9:00 p.m. slot.
Ingraham’s new show, “The Ingraham Angle,” will start on Oct. 30. Hannity’s new slot begins Monday, Sep. 25.
Deadline noted that until Oct. 30th, the 10:00 p.m. slot will be filled with a variety of people.
TV Newser reported that Ingraham has been a Fox News contributor for over a decade, and since 2010 she was the primary fill-in for Bill O’Reilly’s now canceled show.
Starting next week, the war for cable ratings is really going to take off. Hannity vs. Maddow vs. Cooper is going to lead to some interesting outcomes, but we have no doubt that Hannity will prevail.
