Hannity Advertisers Are Pulling an OReilly-Style Groundhog Day

It seems like a repeat of what happened just one month ago to Bill O’Reilly: subscribers bolting, a host going on vacation at a very conspicuous time.

It’s leading many to speculate that Fox News’ Sean Hannity may be the next big name to get the ax from the “fair and balanced” network.

According to Philly.com, Hannity has taken a couple of days of vacation from his Fox News show after a firestorm of controversy involving Seth Rich, the murdered DNC staffer whose death has sparked a number of conspiracy theories.

Even after Fox News retracted a story that linked Rich to WikiLeaks via a private investigator hired by the Rich family — who later told CNN that “he had no evidence to suggest Rich had contacted Wikileaks before his death” — Hannity continued to run with it, which led to a thinly veiled call for an advertiser boycott from a BuzzFeed reporter.

Seven advertisers have pulled out of Hannity’s show, including Cars.com, which said it had “been watching closely and have recently made the decision to pull our advertising from Hannity.”

This isn’t nearly the number that pulled out of O’Reilly’s show, and sexual harassment is a lot more serious of a charge than mere conspiracy theories, but that doesn’t mean that there’s not some writing on the wall.

Fox News tried to play down the vacation parallel.

“Like the rest of the country, Sean Hannity is taking a vacation for Memorial Day weekend and will be back on Tuesday,” the network said in a statement, according to Variety. “Those who suggest otherwise are going to look foolish.”

Regardless, it has become clear that the left is going to try to discredit Fox News and its hosts by all means necessary, and that includes Hannity.

When similar sexual harassment claims against Hannity didn’t work — the accuser’s narrative was quickly backtracked and Hannity threatened lawsuits all around — it became the mere act of talking about the Seth Rich case.

We all know that Fox News has begun to lurch to the left, and that has claimed more than a few victims. Let’s hope that Sean Hannity isn’t the next one.
