Talk about choosing your battles badly.
A man is charged with seven felonies after attempting to carjack a vehicle from two people in St. Louis, Missouri, who happened to be undercover cops just looking for a carjacker to arrest.
According to KMOV-TV, the unidentified officers were in an unmarked vehicle on the morning of Nov. 28 to investigate a string of carjackings that had been going on in the area.
The officers were stopped at an intersection when they spotted a Nissan Altima that was believed to be involved in those crimes.
After the officers called in information about the suspect vehicle and were waiting for a response, a man identified as Isaiah Williams got out of the car and walked over to the officers‘ car.
According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Williams was wielding a stolen AK-47-style assault rifle with a 30-round magazine and ordered the officers to get out of the car.
Williams couldn’t have expected what happened next: The two cops started shooting.
KTVI-TV reported that Williams was shot in the arms and legs. He was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Another man inside the Altima then sped off. Police said that car had been stolen in a carjacking in mid-October.
One officer was injured in the shooting, but police say those injuries were minor.
St. Louis acting Police Chief Lawrence O’Toole said the officers were prepared for this type of a situation.
“Our officers encounter this style of weapon [often],” O’Toole explained.
“This is the same style weapon that we’ve had officers shot with,” he continued.
Thank God for these officers and all law enforcement officials around the country who face these daily dangers to keep the rest of us safe.
God bless them all.
