On Monday, a majority of Senate Democrats, joined by two Republicans, voted to block a bill that would ban abortions after 20 weeks. The bill needed 60 votes to proceed, but only attained a count of 51-46.
President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence expressed their deep disappointment in the death of the legislation that would save the lives of countless unborn babies from being aborted.
But according to The Daily Wire, there were at least a few Democrats who were far from disappointed at the final vote tally on the proposed 20-weeks abortion ban. And they displayed their pleasure with the result in a rather unseemly fashion on the Senate floor as the last votes were still coming in.
Check out this snippet of video, which appears to capture North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp giving a high-five to Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York after casting her “No” vote.

Local Fargo TV anchor and commentator Chris Berg asked in a tweet, “Senator Heidi Heitkamp High-Fives Sen Chuck Schumer after she votes NO on the ‘Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.’ Do you feel this NO vote represents the people of North Dakota?”
The incredibly out-of-place moment of celebration after defeating a pro-life bill was first noticed by a North Dakota blogger named Rob Port, who pointed out in his SayAnythingBlog that a clear majority of North Dakotans had recently been polled as in favor of the legislation that Heitkamp helped block.
Port wondered if the video clip might come back to haunt Heitkamp and hurt her bid at re-election as a Democrat in a red state that voted heavily for Trump, though he also noted that generally pro-life North Dakotans had a tendency to act ambivalently toward abortion issues when it came time to vote.
Matt Vespa of Townhall also weighed in on Heitkamp’s moment of “disgrace.”
He too noted that polls had shown a ban on abortions after 20 weeks was popular with a majority of the American people, and considered it “appalling” that Heitkamp and Schumer would celebrate the defeat of the legislation as they did.
Vespa also noted that the legislation was not “radical” either, as some baby-murder-supporting Democrats might claim, but was in fact the law in most European countries — ironically even the left-leaning nations that Democrats typically hold up as wanting to emulate.
But the real crux of the matter, at least for Heitkamp, is how this celebratory high-five/hand clasp with Schumer will affect her chances at re-election come November.
It should be noted that Schumer has already placed vulnerable red state Democrats like Heitkamp behind the eight ball with the incredibly ill-advised government shutdown, which saw Senate Democrats placing the interests of illegal immigrants above the needs of American citizens.
Favoring illegals over citizens doesn’t play particularly well with the voting public, nor does celebrating the fact that abortion mills like Planned Parenthood can continue to murder unborn babies that can feel pain and could potentially survive outside the womb if born prematurely.
Heitkamp better hope this particular video clip is forgotten about between now and November, but something tells us that her Republican opponent will be more than happy to remind the voters of North Dakota about it before they go to the polls.
