One Delaware criminal made the headlines in May after a surveillance camera footage was released by the Pennsylvania convenience, showing how the criminal is making fun and then attacks a disabled man.
The scandal happened on May 10, when Barry R. Baker of Georgetown, Delaware decided to make fun of a man with a cerebral palsy in front of a 7-Eleven store.
And then the mockery turned into an abuse.
“This defendant is a bully,” Tom Hogan, Chester County District Attorney, stated after Baker was arrested. “Every decent citizen should be outraged by the defendant’s conduct. The victim is to be commended for keeping his cool and notifying the police.”
“The defendant’s actions, in this case, are appalling,” continued, West Chester police chief Scott Bohn. “You wonder what would make an individual treat somebody like that.”
Baker’s bail was set on $25,000, but somehow, he managed to get out by only paying a 10% of the amount.
After his release, two other warrants were issued for “failure to pay back child support” and “violation of his probation on theft charges.”
The police finally found him at Chester County hotel in June, but during his court hearing, he said he voluntarily came back to the country to turn himself in.
“I came back last night,” he said to the Senior Judge. “I wanted to turn myself in today.”
Anyhow, he “had no explanation as to why he had not registered under his own name at the hotel where he was found,” and as to why he “had a number of untraceable ‘burner’ phones in the room with him.”
A few months later Beker accused his correction officer of assaulting him.
“Here is some more news for you,” he said in a handwritten letter sent to Daily Local News. “Sunday night around 11:30 p.m. I was attacked by a CO while housed on PC.”
In September Baker pleaded guilty to the charges for assaulting the disabled man.
His lawyer said Baker felt sorry for his reckless behavior and he only wanted to continue with his own life.
