While much of the world has been focused on the fight against the Islamic State terror group, Al Qaeda has been growing in power, and now Osama bin Laden’s son, Hamza bin Laden, could be the next leader of his deceased father’s infamous terror organization.
Hamza is reportedly vowing to avenge his father’s death, and experts are worried that he could become a unifying force for the global jihadi movement, CBS News reported.
Ali Soufan, a former FBI agent who led the investigation into Al Qaeda after 9/11, stated in an interview with CBS’ Holly Williams that Hamza is hell-bent on revenge, and has made that abundantly clear.
“His recent message that came out, he delivered the speech as if it’s his father…using sentences, terminology that was used by Osama bin Laden,” Soufan said.
“He’s basically saying, ‘American people, we’re coming and you’re going to feel it. And we’re going to take revenge for what you did to my father … Iraq … Afghanistan’ … the whole thing was about vengeance,” he explained.
CNN noted that the latest Al Qaeda propaganda film, released Saturday, features Hamza quite prominently. It is quite possible that Al Qaeda is hoping to use bin Laden’s son as a way to bring Al Qaeda back to the forefront of the global jihadi movement.
The New York Daily News noted that in the video, Hamza calls on followers to commit lone-wolf attacks, primarily against Jewish and American targets.
Hopefully we will be able to find and eliminate Hamza a lot faster than it took us to find his father. Hamza could pose a serious threat to the United States, and he needs to be dealt with quickly.
We can’t let our fixation with the Islamic State terror group cause us to let our guard down with Al Qaeda — a serious threat that is growing every day.
Just because Al Qaeda hasn’t conducted a successful attack against the United States in a long time doesn’t mean they aren’t biding their time, plotting and waiting for the perfect time to strike.
