Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” is one of many people’s favorite songs to belt at the top of their lungs. And this 9-year-old boy with Down syndrome agrees.
When Jeanne Miller posted a video on Facebook of her nephew, Dane Miller, singing along to the car stereo, she had no idea that it would go viral. The video shows young Dane Miller of Prosper, Texas holding his own concert from the back seat, singing along to Houston’s big hit.
The boy’s rendition of “I Have Nothing” was complete with dramatic hand motions and expressions, and of course, loud and powerful singing. Miller’s enthusiasm and dedication to the music is sure to make anyone smile.
The video, which was posted on July 25, 2017 reached 21 million views on Facebook after just one week. The Miller family has been shocked and delighted by the amount of positive attention Dane has received since the video went viral.
“Just reading the comments, they’re so sweet. I’m getting emotional,” said Dane Miller’s mother, Danna Miller. “Some other families who have Down Syndrome children have posted pictures with their kids.”
Danna Miller shared that her son is a music-lover and that some of his favorites are Taylor Swift, Kidz Bop Kids and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s “Carol of the Bells.” Dane Miller’s interest in Whitney Houston was sparked after the family watched a documentary about the late superstar.

The boy’s older brother Dawson Miller, 13, introduced him to Houston’s music and he started listening to them regularly. When the 1993 hit “I Have Nothing” came on in the car while riding with his dad, Dane Miller decided to let loose.
“When we had Dane, we didn’t know that he had Down syndrome, but it wouldn’t have mattered,” Danna Miller told ABC News. “He has been probably the biggest blessing of our lives. He is just so loving and joyful. He is what’s good about this world.”
The Millers have started a YouTube channel called “Amazing Dane,” featuring more of their son’s musical performances. Their goal for the channel is to celebrate their son and to spread his joy to everyone.
“This channel was set up to share the awesomeness of Dane Miller,” the YouTube channel description reads. “He is full of joy, passion, and love for everyone he comes in contact with. We hope these videos will give you joy and make you laugh a little or whole lot.”
Dane Miller’s rise to internet fame is an encouragement to everyone who has a loved one with Down syndrome. Not only that, but this boy shows us how much happiness can be found in something as simple as singing along to a beloved 1990s tune.
