CNN Sets New Rules for Trump-Russia Coverage

While President Donald Trump has sparred with most of the liberal media since he announced his presidency two years ago, he has reserved the title of “very fake news” for CNN.

CNN talking heads have made it abundantly clear that they have no respect for Trump, and will go to some pretty extreme lengths to knock him down. Unfortunately for them, several of CNN’s stories about Trump were debunked, leading the network to revise its publishing guidelines, BuzzFeed reported.

CNN was forced to retract and delete yet another story about the Trump-Russia scandal last week. The story that was retracted claimed Trump transition team member Anthony Scaramucci was under FBI investigation for his Russian contacts.

The Scaramucci story was based on one unnamed source, and was easily proven false. In the wake of this huge embarrassment, CNNMoney’s executive editor, Rich Barbieri, sent an email to his employees laying out new guidelines for Russia/Trump-related stories.

“No one should publish any content involving Russia without coming to me and (CNN Vice President) Jason (Farkas),” the email stated. “This applies to social, video, editorial, and MoneyStream. No exceptions. I will lay out a workflow Monday.”

Talk about crisis mode. CNN is clearly scrambling to cover themselves after the Scaramucci story became the latest Russia-related story to bite them in the behind.

CNN’s reaction to the story may go beyond this simple change in publishing criteria. BuzzFeed reported that an “unnamed source” claimed that action would be taken against those who actually wrote the false story, stating that it was a “massive, massive f*** up and people will be disciplined.”

It’s about time CNN started trying to clean up their act. For months the network has thrown legitimate reporting to the wayside, constantly relying on “anonymous” sources to hurl bogus charges at the Trump administration in an attempt to derail it.

Maybe CNN will be upgraded to “fake news” instead of “very fake news.”
