Without question, one of the biggest problems President Donald Trump’s young administration has faced has been internal leaks emanating from the White House and various departments of the executive branch.
Friday morning, in light of Trump’s recent firing of FBI Director James Comey — and in typical fashion for his presidency — Trump let loose a flurry of tweets, one of which was a not-so-subtle warning to Comey to refrain from leaking any details of their meetings to the media, according to The Washington Times.
In his letter informing Comey that he had been terminated, Trump mentioned three occasions in which Comey had told Trump that he was not the target of any FBI investigation, a claim many in the liberal media question and no doubt intend to track down and debunk.
Trump tweeted, “James Comey better hope that there are no ‘tapes’ of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!”

Politico noted that the public warning only seemed to compound the already unusual nature of the situation, pointing out that the alleged reassurances offered to the president by Comey regarding the Russia investigation were already viewed as highly “inappropriate.”
In prior congressional testimony, Comey had refrained from directly answering questions regarding whether Trump was under investigation by the FBI, but the president, in the letter and in an NBC interview, insisted that Comey had specifically reassured him of as much on three separate occasions.
The Washington Examiner reported that administration leaks have been a big problem thus far in Trump’s presidency, and Trump has called it the biggest story the media has been missing. In fact, Trump has suggested that the FBI should be more focused on determining the identity of those who have leaked sensitive information to the media — which is potentially a felony — than on the unproven conspiratorial allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Whether Trump actually possesses recordings of his conversations with Comey remained to be seen, but if Comey eventually decides to tell all to the media in a manner that damages Trump, we will likely found out pretty quickly.
