The Supreme Court just ruled on President Donald Trump’s controversial travel ban: it will stay.
According to Breitbart, the Supreme Court lifted the injunction blocking the ban the morning of June 25. This comes after months of controversy over the ban, which would prohibit people from six Muslim majority countries from entering the United States.
However, there are certain injunctions which would block enforcement. For example, a student with ties to the U.S. would be allowed entry from one of those six countries.
“We grant the Government’s applications to stay the injunctions, to the extent the injunctions prevent enforcement of §2(c) with respect to foreign nationals who lack any bona fide relationship with a person or entity in the United States,” the ruling stated.
The Supreme Court wanted to make it very clear that anyone from one of the six countries who have no ties to the U.S. will be denied entry. “[T]he injunctions reach much further than that: They also bar enforcement of §2(c) against foreign nationals abroad who have no connection to the United States at all,” it continued.
CNN reported that the ban could take effect in less than a few days after the decision. The countries affected by the ban include terror hot spots: Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. Travelers from those countries will be barred from entering the U.S. for 90 days.
President Donald Trump spoke out about the Supreme Court’s decision. According to The New York Times, he called it “a clear victory for our national security.”
“As president, I cannot allow people into our country who want to do us harm,” the president proudly stated. “I want people who can love the United States and all of its citizens, and who will be hardworking and productive.”
