The major development surrounding North Korea continue with the rogue regime’s most aggressive move yet: a threat to of a possible missile strike on the US Pacific territory of Guam.
CNBC reports that a Korean People’s Army spokesman revealed that the regime is “carefully examining” an attack on Guam, which will be “put into practice in a multi-current and consecutive way any moment” if dictator Kim Jong Un gives the green light.
In another statement citing a different military spokesman, North Korea also said it could carry out a pre-emptive operation if the United States showed signs of provocation.
Earlier Pyongyang said it was ready to give Washington a “severe lesson” with its strategic nuclear force in response to any U.S. military action.
Washington has warned it is ready to use force if need be to stop North Korea’s ballistic missile and nuclear programs but that it prefers global diplomatic action, including sanctions.
The consequences of any U.S. strike would potentially be catastrophic not only for North Koreans but also South Korea, Japan and the thousands of U.S. military personnel within range of any North Korean retaliatory strikes.
This alarming news follows today’s revelations that North Korea reportedly has a nuclear warhead that would fit inside an ICBM and is actively developing a means of delivering it, and US President Donald Trump responding with a declaration that further threats to America “will be met with fire, fury and frankly power the likes of which this world has never seen before.”
It seems increasingly inevitable that hostilities between North Korea and the free world will come to a head sooner rather than later, and the regime seems intent on testing Trump’s resolve. Do you think our new president is up to the challenge?
