Well, this development isn’t exactly a surprise, but I don’t know if anyone expected it to happen quite so soon.
The Daily Wire reports that the Denver Broncos has issued a statement declaring that they had essentially gotten the kneeling out of their system, and that all of their players will be standing up for the National Anthem.
Let’s dig into the full statement:
“Last week, members of our team joined their brothers around the NFL in a powerful display of unity.
“It was an emotional time for everyone, including the fans who support us each and every week. As controversial as it appeared, we needed to show our collective strength and resolve.
“Our voices needed to be heard loud and clear.
Unity, strength, resolve, and voices were necessary to deploy … in the name of a cause the Broncos don’t specify.
“Make no mistake — our actions were in no way a protest of the military, the flag or those who keep us safe. We have nothing but the deepest love and respect for those who protect our way of life and the freedoms we enjoy as Americans.
“In no way” … unless, of course, you count snubbing the the anthem representing the country, the military, the flag, and those freedoms as a “way.” Seems legit.
“While there’s no greater country, it’s not perfect. Inequalities still exist, and we have work to do in ALL forms of social justice. We can all do better.
“Inequalities exist” in the too-banal-to-be-worth-mentioning sense that human nature is fallen and no evil will ever go fully extinct, or “inequalities exist” in the sense that major American institutions or segments of the culture are racist? And when you say “ALL forms of social justice,” does that include racial fear-mongering, wealth redistribution, government intervention into more corners of American life, etc.?
“It starts with us. We need to do our part and use our platform as NFL players to continue driving that positive change.
It certainly does. You might consider starting by doing something about the rampant criminality within the ranks of the NFL, or at the very least having your players bother to read up on controversial subjects before shooting their mouths off.
“Our locker room is one diverse place, and that’s what makes it so special. It’s where thoughtful, intelligent leaders from all different races, religions and backgrounds come together.
“We may have different values and beliefs, but there’s one thing we all agree on:
“We’re a team and we stand together — no matter how divisive some comments and issues can be, nothing should ever get in the way of that.
“Some comments.” Any chance of anyone within the NFL taking any share of the blame for dividing people in the first place? Or is the unity talk just talk, mere cover while you double down on divisiveness while pretending it’s all the fault of big mean Donald Trump?
“Starting Sunday, we’ll be standing together.”
And I’m sure that’s all because of your “it’s time for unity” blather, and doesn’t have anything to do with the beginnings of a mass exodus of viewers, attendees, and sponsors from the NFL…
This should be a clear message to certain fools fretting about how Trump just made things worse by focusing the nation’s attention on anti-Americanism within the NFL. It’s early yet, and the full outcome remains to be seen, but one of America’s biggest, most influential cultural institutions has just been given a reminder that there are still consequences for the Left’s aggression in the culture war.
