Former President Bill Clinton has done his fair share of writing post-office, but his books have always been stocked in the non-fiction section.

Soon that will change. Clinton has recently announced that he will be collaborating with bestselling author James Patterson to write a political thriller.

The President Is Missing is set to be published in June of 2018.

Patterson spoke highly of their collaboration. “Working with President Clinton has been the highlight of my career, and having access to his firsthand experience has uniquely informed the writing of this novel,” the author said in a statement.

Clinton, likewise, gave the project his praise. “Working on a book about a sitting president – drawing on what I know about the job, life in the White House and the way Washington works – has been a lot of fun,” said Clinton in a statement. “And working with Jim has been terrific. I’ve been a fan of his for a very long time.”

What’s more, this book has gained bi-publisher support. Rival publishers Alfred A. Knopf and Little, Brown and Co. will release the novel together.

The publishing houses released a joint statement on Monday, describing the book as “a unique amalgam of intrigue, suspense and behind-the-scenes global drama from the highest corridors of power. It will be informed by details that only a president can know.”

Bill Clinton has long maintained a relationship with Knopf, the publisher responsible for My Life, Clinton’s bestselling book.

Patterson, on the other hand, has been with Little, Brown for decades.

Random House has acquired the rights to distribute the book in the U.K. Commonwealth and Europe.

The publishers have kept contract details under wraps, but The Guardian speculates that the authors received a seven-figure advance. Clinton’s $16 million advance for his 2004 memoir set the new record for any book deal.

While works of fiction penned by former presidents are rare, they are not unprecedented.

Jimmy Carter published The Hornet’s Nest in 2003. Further, Harry Truman’s daughter, Margaret Truman, gained success with her Capital Crime mystery series.
