Among the dignitaries attending the commissioning of the $12.9 billion warship were Defense Secretary James Mattis, former Vice President Dick Cheney and few others in Norfolk, Virginia.
“I hereby place United States Ship Gerald R. Ford in commission,” Trump stated and gave a speech in which he applauded the military and the American labor that built the 100,000-ton warship.
Trump pointed out the special capabilities of the new warship.
“When it comes to battle, we don’t want a fair fight. We demand victory and we will have total victory, believe me,” Trump stated. “American steel and American hands have constructed a 100,000-ton message to the world. America’s might is second to none.”
The opening of the ceremony started with the singing of The Star Spangled Banner by Tinnion, while the military planes flew over.
People quickly shared their impressions of Tinnion’s rendition of the national anthem on Twitter, praising him for his “fantastic” performance.
